3 Benefits of Flaxseed for Women’s Fertility

Sprinkling flaxseeds on your fertility smoothie bowl or blending flaxseeds in a regular fertility smoothie are some common ways women trying to conceive can use flax.

If you’re not already using flaxseeds, my hope is that you will soon after reading this blog.

Flaxseeds are tiny little oil filled seeds with a nutty flavor and a bit of a crunch. They are brown tiny seeds that produce purple flowers and have been used since forever.

In this blog I’m going to share three dietary and nutritional benefits of flaxseed for fertility for women. But first I want to give you a quick back story about flaxseeds and how I’ve been using it lately as a fertility food.

Flaxseed Uses

Flaxseed actually has many uses from culinary, cosmetics to industrial products. Flaxseed fibers has even been used to make textiles and clothes.

Wearing natural fibers made of organic flax, can be beneficial for fertility if you’re trying to conceive and want to avoid pesticides and chemicals often sprayed on other fibers like cotton.

So if you’re wanting a more natural fiber to avoid synthetic materials from clothing rubbing into your pores, flax linens and garments should be on your shopping list.

How I Am Using Flaxseed for Fertility

Recently I have started taking my flaxseed again, after a long time without any in my diet. I’ve been using flax for several years and have used if as an alternative for eggs in homemade cakes and breads. I’ve even used flaxseed gel in a homemade shampoo I made with some essential oils. Lately, I find I will just put it on or in anything that will allow including my kale salads and oatmeal.

As you can tell, you can get really creative with how you use flaxseed. If nutty, crunchy goodness isn’t your thing, don’t let this stop you from improving your fertility naturally with flax.

Types of Flaxseeds

Flax seeds come in two shades, which are dark brown and golden. They also can be found whole or ground.

Normally I use whole, dark brown flax because that is what I’m used to. But I got the ground flax meal this time. I am still very sceptical about the lighter brown version because I’ve only started noticing a few years ago. I also prefer the whole flax since it lasts longer, so I get the most nutritional benefits.

Some other Benefits of flaxseed

Flaxseeds contain fiber, omega-3 and omega-6.

Fiber promotes regular stool and elimination of waste which balances hormones
May improve cervical mucus(3)
Promote absorption of nutrients and proper digestion

Flaxseed is also used to help women regulate their cycle and promote ovulation through a process called seed cycling.

However, avoid the oil itself after conception. “flaxseed oil” (the liquid sold in bottles) has been linked to miscarriages.
