Egg Quality: Cleaning Your Home & Fertility

Growing up as a child, Sundays were when we did deep cleaning in our home.

That meant cleaning “from top to bottom” in my Mom’s Jamaican patois and making sure that everything was “Spick and span”.

We had every chemical on deck:

Bleach
Pinesol
Ammonia
Windex
Comet (Or it’s Canadian equivalent which I forget)
Etc.

As you may know, these chemicals can be very harmful to your egg heath and fertility, especially if you’re trying to conceive and haven’t been successful yet.

So I wanted to share one of the things that I caught early that I think helped me to have better fertility.

The type of cleaning products (or stuff) I use and my strategy — for minimizing my exposure to toxic chemicals!

Okay, so here’s the thing…

As a child of Jamaican born and raised parents, cleaning was a BIG DEAL

Every Sunday, church or not, rain, sleet or storm, we cleaned the entire house like our lives depended on it.

And if you are a child of Jamaican parents, like me, you know that you probably believed it did.

Anyway, let me put it this way, we were expected to clean just in case the Queen of England decided to come and visit our home.

And nothing symbolizes this better than seeing a bottle or bar of Dettol soap–giving the seal of approval from the queen herself– in the bathrooms or cleaning closet of any Jamaican home you visit.

I know it sounds absurd and maybe even brutal, but here me out…

It was for a good reason!

Being that Jamaicans grew up on an island that was brutal in terms of the type of insects and diseases that could spread in an unclean home, ensuring that your house was as clean as possible was a preventative solution to a possible life or death situation.

But unfortunately, that meant being exposed to some really harsh chemicals–okay bleach was probably the worst–but if you’re struggling to conceive, this is harsh stuff!

Luckily over the years I’ve come to learn of several other solutions to possibly ruining my egg quality prematurely!

Keep reading if you want to know what some of them are…

But before I continue, I want to note that I actually enjoyed cleaning–and still do.

But most of the time when it wasn’t Sunday, my brother, sister and I waited until we heard Mom’s car pulling up in the drive way to clean like the world was ending in the 2-3 minutes before she walked in the house. LOL

Mind you, when I was much younger, I used to believe that if I cleaned hard enough that Mr. Clean himself would one day appear on my black & white tile floors in the kitchen.

He never showed up. LOL

But when I learned that putting my hands directly in bleach filled water wasn’t such a good idea and definitely wasn’t good for fertility, I stopped doing it.

I started making my own cleaning supplies using things like:
– Essential Oils
– Apple Cider Vinegar
– Alcohol
– Simple water & soap
– Etc

In fact, I’ve even started messing with some actual “natural” chemicals used to make soap, shampoo and dishwashing liquid from scratch!

I still use bleach here and there, but much less often and only when its a must. When I do I use gloves and make sure to ventilate the rooms.

My strategy for minimizing my exposure to harmful chemicals

One thing you can do is to simply not use bleach and other harsh chemicals everyday.

Instead try using them once a week or spread out over a longer distance if you absolutely have to use it.

A little known secret is that my herbs that are good for fertility are also great for cleaning your home with!

One thing you can do is to actually use some of the same fertility herbs found in your yoni steam or fertility supplements used to improve your fertility to create cleaning solutions to use in your home!

Some fertility herbs that are also great for cleaning your home with include:

Lavender
Rosemary
Orange Peels
Ginger
Lemon

You can use some of these fertility herbs by boiling them just as you would when making a yoni steam, but instead of sitting over the concoction, waiting for it to cool, strain it and put in a spray bottle to clean surfaces with.

You want to be careful which surface you are cleaning with to make sure you wont damage your furniture, tv screens, phone screens or other devices and fabrics.

But this is one way to use those extra yoni steam herbs that aren’t enough to yoni steam with, but that you want to put to good use.

Cleaning your home with natural cleaning solutions can reduce toxin exposure to your eggs & boost fertility.

What cleaning supplies do you use to reduce your exposure to harmful toxins and chemicals?
